As educators, we often find ourselves consumed by the daily demands of teaching, supporting students, and navigating administrative tasks. In the midst of this busyness, we can forget our fundamental need for community—a space to connect, share, and grow. Fortunately, technology has made it possible to build these connections beyond the walls of our own schools. What began as a small, virtual gathering of learning directors in September 2022, has since evolved into a flourishing professional community that stretches across the United States, Bangkok, and Nicaragua. This group has become a resource we didn’t realize we needed until it was there—and it continues to grow and thrive.

The idea for this network emerged during a conversation between Cindy Groot from Dutton Christian School (MI) and Valerie Moll from Central Valley Christian School (CA), both CSI member schools. They recognized that many Christian schools were introducing the role of learning director as a critical new support position. This role can look quite different depending on the school—covering curriculum development, instructional coaching, student services, and more—but at its heart, the position exists to provide support to both teachers and students. Out of their conversation came the vision for a virtual, monthly gathering where learning directors and other educational leaders could connect, share resources, and discuss challenges specific to Christian schools. This group became the Christian School Network.

Sharing Knowledge and Supporting Growth

Over time, the Christian School Network has tackled a diverse array of topics relevant to educators. Reviewing past meeting agendas and notes—now spanning seventy-eight pages—reveals the breadth and depth of conversations. Discussions have included curriculum design, assessment strategies, instructional coaching practices, policy development, scheduling challenges, and teacher training. Yet, the group has also delved into broader topics that, while not always directly tied to the job description, provide valuable insights and foster personal and professional growth.

What makes this network especially meaningful is its collaborative nature. Each participant contributes by sharing knowledge, resources, and experiences. A dedicated Google Drive serves as a central repository for documents, tools, and references that benefit the group as a whole. Recognizing that no two schools are the same, these shared materials offer inspiration and practical solutions tailored to a variety of contexts. Learning from one another and providing support has become a cornerstone of the group’s success.

Prioritizing Connection and Encouragement

The commitment to this network is evident. Attending the monthly meetings has become a priority for many participants, and the energy is palpable as virtual squares light up with faces from across the globe. The joy of connection is not merely professional; it is deeply personal. As Christian school educators, we are reminded that our work is a response to God’s calling on our lives. In this network, we find encouragement and reassurance that we are not alone in the unique challenges and joys of serving our schools.

The Christian School Network now includes over 40 members—a growing group of leaders who support, challenge, and inspire one another. While networking may not traditionally be associated with Christian school educators, it should be. Building connections with peers from different schools and regions broadens our perspectives, strengthens our ministries, and deepens our understanding of God’s vision for Christian education.

Join the Christian School Network

In a profession where isolation can be common, this network serves as a lifeline. It is a tangible reminder of the power of collaboration and the importance of community. Together, we navigate the complexities of education, share best practices, and celebrate the privilege of playing an active role in God’s story. This group has become an invaluable resource—a place of connection, support, and growth for Christian educators worldwide.

For those seeking a professional community that encourages and equips, the Christian School Network offers a model worth emulating. By prioritizing collaboration and creating space for meaningful connection, we not only strengthen ourselves as educators but also fulfill our calling to serve students, teachers, and schools with excellence and faithfulness.
