Job Description
The Reading Specialist works with both general education students as well as students receiving services through West Side’s Educational Support Services department. They will use a variety of diagnostic tools to identify literacy challenges and implement evidence based literacy strategies and best practices with individuals and small groups in K-2. In addition, the Reading Specialist will model and coach paraprofessionals to implement, monitor and report on prescribed literacy instruction.

- Reflect and integrate a biblical perspective throughout teaching
- Display proficiency in administering diagnostic tools that can identify literacy challenges and set appropriate instructional goals
- Provide high quality research-based literacy instruction to individuals and small groups in both general education classrooms as well as students in the Educational Support Services Department
- Display proficiency at monitoring and reporting student’s progress on established instructional goals to parents, teachers and other members of the learning community
- Maintain appropriate documentation of assessments, goals and progress
- Model and coach paraprofessionals in the use of evidence-based literacy strategies and best practices to meet instructional goals
- Coach teachers on the best practices for teaching literacy skills to struggling students
- Participate in curriculum committees to ensure that curriculum meets the literacy needs and goals of the school
- As needed, participates in the Child Study Team (CST) process and Individualized Service Plan (ISP)

Education Requirements
Experience as a Reading Specialist, Special Education degree preferred
