Job Description

We are seeking a fully licensed K – 5th grade teacher for the 2025 – 2026 school year. This individual should love the lord and spend time daily in prayer. They should be competent in their field and have a desire to encourage and equip students to do great things for God.

The mission of Waverly Christian school is to equip with absolute truth, empower with education, and engage with the world.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide a caring, friendly, respectful, well-kept, well-managed, safe, structured, nurturing, and
Christian learning atmosphere that is conducive to academic, faith, and Christian character growth
for all students.
2. Embrace all student strengths and weaknesses.
3. Provide distinctively Christian instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
4. Prepare daily lesson plans in alignment with subject area standards and benchmarks. Be
accountable for teaching the approved curriculum. Accept and maintain responsibility for all
student curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
5. Use student data in order to effectively alter/adjust instruction, curricular tools, and assessment
methods.
6. Keep accurate and complete records for each student.
7. Be responsible for classroom discipline and student management that aligns with the school
behavior expectations.
8. Advocate for students and keep a “students first” focus.
9. Fulfill all policies, procedures, and professional obligations outlined in handbooks and in written
and oral instructions from the Head of School or director of faculty development.
10. Recognize all students, parents, and colleagues as image bearers of God and maintain an attitude
of constructive cooperation, praying for and supporting all members of the school community
through various means.
11. Provide leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
12. Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, administrators, colleagues, parents,
and school supporters.
13. Grow in professional knowledge of students, faith development, Christian education, curriculum,
instruction, and assessment.
14. Partner with parents in the education of their covenant child. Communicate regularly related to
student progress, concerns, joys, or other topics.
15. Be a champion and advocate of the school and Christian education. Speak and act positively on
behalf of the school and all school employees.
16. Participate actively and positively in all faculty meetings, professional development,
parent/teacher conferences, school events, workdays, data team meetings, team assignments, and
other opportunities, as assigned by the Head of School.
17. Communicate regularly with school faculty, staff, and administrators, maintaining an effective
educational team. Willingly partner with others in the education of students.
18. Perform recess duty, lunchroom supervision, hallway supervision, and other duties regularly and
consistently.
19. Provide direction, support, and materials for paraprofessionals who assist in student learning,
with the teacher remaining responsible and evaluating student progress during and following
instruction.
20. Contribute to the pursuit of school-wide goals.
21. Manage all aspects of the classroom, including displays, materials, and cleanliness.
22. Other duties as appropriate and assigned.

Understand, support, and fulfill the mission of the school as a member of the school team. 9. Demonstrate a love of teaching, learning, and serving others. 10. Demonstrate effective listening, teaching strategies, curricular knowledge, assessment abilities, teamwork, and a positive, teachable attitude and spirit. 11. Demonstrate a calm demeanor in stressful situations. 12. Maintain confidentiality.


Education Requirements

Applicants must have an active Iowa teaching license.
