Band Assistant

Job Description

We are looking for a part time band assistant for our middle school students. This person would work closely with our music teacher and students during the band class periods for 5th-8th graders. The ideal candidate should demonstrate their love for God and a passion for teaching students the Word of God as well as be knowledgeable with music and band instruments.

1. Assist in 8 class periods over 3 days. Co-planning time as needed.
2. Assist in the planning, instructional delivery and implementation of a comprehensive band program that will foster success for 5th grade/beginning band, 6th grade band, and 7th/8th/advanced band.
3. Enjoy working with middle school students.
4. Have a heart for Jesus.
5. Be reliable and dependable in job attendance and performance.
6. Assist with teaching beginners how to care for and play their instruments during rehearsals and sectionals.
7. For the first few months of beginning band, teach half of the class as a sectional (either woodwinds or brass/percussion).
8. Listen to and grade students’ playing tests.
9. Diagnose and make minor instrument repairs and assist with instrument maintenance.
10. Instruct students on their instruments at their level.
11. Monitor each student’s progress and provide as much individualization as possible.
12. Lead sectionals.
13. Assist with choosing Solo & Ensemble music for upper level bands.
14. Accompany students for Solo & Ensemble as needed.
15. Assist with maintaining a current and accurate band equipment inventory and music library.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the bands.
17. Additional hours may be available to aide in other areas/classrooms.
18. Support the mission and vision of the school.
19. Exhibits a growth mindset in learning, teaching, and faith development.
