CAPE meeting with Betsy DeVos

Betsy DeVos, US secretary of education, met with leaders of the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) on March 20. Joel Westa, president/CEO of Christian Schools International, holds a seat on the board; he is seated on the lefthand side, second from the corner. The group of more than 50 private school leaders met with DeVos at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Education Building in Washington, DC, where DeVos outlined her immediate goals of building up her senior staff and successfully implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act. DeVos’s further goals include conversation about higher education and lifelong learning.

CAPE members also had the opportunity to ask questions of DeVos and put forth issues important to their work as educators in private schools. For more information on the issues raised, see the April issue of the CAPE Outlook: https://www.capenet.org/pdf/Outlook424.pdf.
