Media Specialist

Management of school library and tech lab. Also includes weekly secondary elective in computer science.

  • Create an environment that is conducive to inquiry, research, study, and personal enrichment by students and staff.
  • Evaluate and select a variety of materials and equipment based upon the curriculum, needs and interests of the students and the staff.
  • Perform and/or coordinate the ordering, cataloging, processing, and maintenance of media and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain an accurate circulation system for media and equipment.
  • Model the effective and enthusiastic use of materials and media for both pleasure and information.
  • Utilize a range of instructional strategies and resources (including volunteers) to promote the benefits and blessings of reading.
  • Plan and provide literacy skills instruction for all students, K-6.
  • Select, sequence, and modify instruction to address all students’ learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to reinforce skills they are teaching, and support their efforts by recommending and providing media, technology, and other resources.
  • Integrate Biblical concepts and a Christian world view with subject matter during instruction.
  • Evaluate, promote, and implement the use of existing and emerging information technologies to support teaching and learning, to supplement school resources, and to provide and maintain safe and appropriate access to information.
  • Implement requirements of all applicable local, national, and global laws and regulations.
  • Communicate appropriately with students, parents, and co-workers and resolve conflicts in a Biblical manner (re: Matthew 18).
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of instruction, based upon the needs of students.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida, and all school policies as stated in the Parent / Student Handbook and the Faculty and Staff Operations Manual .


Job Requirements

2+ years of teaching experience

Organizational skills

Adept at navigating online school management platforms

Willing to work with students K-12

Preferred: experience with basic computer science (e.g. coding, HTML, Google apps, web design, elementary robotics, etc.)

Education Requirements

Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Be or become certified in Education Media Specialist K-12

OR

Complete a minimum of 6 hours of college level coursework in the following:

  • Library administration OR
  • Information resource management

AND

  • Assessment in the early literacy and reading classroom OR
  • Play, culture, and emergent literacy
