Director of Development

Development leadership role for a growing school system that serves students from all across Chicago's Southland.

The Director of Development is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of Southwest Chicago Christian’s efforts to raise gift income. This includes operational, capital and deferred gifts. This role is also responsible for cultivating and developing our expansive alumni network, capitalizing on our 100 plus year history and aligning alumni support to grow fundraising and foundation revenue. The Director of Development will oversee the development team and will collaborate closely with the Director of Admissions, Business Manager and Campus Principals.

Job Requirements

1. In partnership with the Superintendent and Board of Directors, lead and manage all aspects of the Development program. Develop an aggressive fundraising plan with strategic objectives, goals, and methods that drives organizational growth and advancement of our mission.


2. Oversee the SCCS annual fund, working closely with the Superintendent to achieve the school’s overall fundraising goals.


3. Manage a portfolio of prospective donors and cultivate, steward, and deepen relationships with current donors.


4. Actively participate in leadership gift solicitations.


5. Develop a strategic plan for mobilizing our alumni base while building strong connections for fundraising growth.


6. Publicly and proactively represent Southwest Chicago Christian Schools in a positive way.


7. Provide leadership for annual fundraising events, including Homecoming activities, golf outings, banquets, and campaign events.


8. Produce Board Reports and presentations. Assist the Board in understanding the budget process and the corresponding impact of gift income.


9. In partnership with the Marketing Department, generate proposals, key donor correspondence, print materials, and digital web-based communication.


10. Oversee data management for the Development office to ensure the privacy and accuracy of reports and gift entry.


11. Manage staff and volunteers to address the areas of operational, capital, and deferred gifts needed from individuals, churches, businesses, foundations, and corporations.


12. Supervise the Alumni Relations Coordinator and the Development Database Specialist.


13.. Engages actively in professional development to remain current in best practices related to development, fundraising and stewardship.


14. Spiritual Formation:

• Has a growing and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Demonstrates spiritual maturity and ability to mentor & disciple staff



Education Requirements

The Director of Development must be a committed Christian and a faith filled leader. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of leadership experience as a fundraising and development professional. He or she has experience working collaboratively and harmoniously with senior leadership, fostering an environment of communication, trust, and shared goals. This person has skills in all aspects of development work, from annual giving to major gifts, to event planning. Additionally, he or she has excellent written and verbal skills, tact, sensitivity, and mature judgment. He or she has an exceptional ability to inspire, motivate, and empower. This leader will demonstrate spiritual maturity that radiates a passion for Christ and models a grace-filled, joyous, obedient life of one saved by grace.
