Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Social Worker, provides behavior intervention support to students and staff in development and implementation of behavior plans. Provides confidentiality by having a thorough understanding of the program's purpose. Evaluates and assesses student progress against behavioral, social emotional, and instructional objectives; Coordinates with general education teachers, paraprofessionals and parents to ensure student goals and objectives are being met.

Essential Duties:


  1. Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all students to participate in classroom activities.
  2. Assists in developing, implementing, modeling behavior and subsequent plans for the purpose of meeting individual student needs and reinforcing learning activities.
  3. Assists in the preparation and adoption of instructional materials, for the purpose of providing activities and materials that facilitate student learning and performance.
  4. Assist in training of staff, parents and students in specialized instructional strategies and techniques being implemented for the purpose of sharing information and techniques used in behavior intervention.
  5. Assists with data models/alternative communication strategies for the purpose of teaching students to communicate effectively.
  6. Implements and models social skill development techniques, including social stories, peer facilitation, and peer training for the purpose of assisting in achieving academic, behavior and social goals.
  7. Implements behavioral plans designed by ESS/SW team for students with behavioral support needs or other special circumstances for the purpose of assigning in meeting students needs and providing a consistent environment.
  8. Is an active member of the Child Study Team and PBIS leadership team.
  9. Monitors and records data on academic and/or behavioral information for the purpose of measuring student progress in identified areas.
  10. Reports observations and incidents related to specific students for the purpose of providing documentation and/or communicating information to the appropriate personnel.
  11. Assists with data collection and assessments for behavioral support services for the purpose of monitoring and reporting progress of identified goals.
  12. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their goals.
  13. Provide Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) support as necessary.
  14. Potentially possess an ability to participate in a co-teaching model with the classroom teachers.

Education Requirements

Qualifications


  1. High School diploma required. Bachelor's Degree in psychology, social work, education, or related field preferred.
  2. Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully implement effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function –based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  3. Knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.
  4. Thorough working knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education
  5. Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction
  6. Ability to effectively communicate with parents/guardians.
  7. Thorough knowledge of emotional, cognitive and learning disabilities.
  8. Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, utilizing CPI techniques.)
