Job Description
Position Overview: The Principal is responsible for the school’s overall educational program for the upper campus. The Principal carries out the purpose, principles, and educational philosophy outlined in the Bylaws of DeMotte Christian Schools, Inc., the school’s Mission Statement, and the policies and educational goals established by the Board of Directors. In this role, the Principal ensures that these requirements are effectively integrated into the school’s curricular and extracurricular activities.
Qualifications:
- Is a Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Is able to articulate a Christian statement of faith and purpose for Christian education.
- Subscribes to the purpose and principles listed in Section 2.01 of Article II and the educational philosophy contained in Section 3.01 of Article III of the Bylaws.
- Is an active communicant member in good standing of a church which subscribes to the historic Reformed confessions listed in Section 2.01 of Article II of the Bylaws. Such membership needs to be established within one year of employment start date.
- Is dedicated to a sound philosophy of Reformed Christian education.
- Agrees to educate his/her current and prospective children in CSI Christian day schools grade 1-12. This requirement may be waived if the child(ren) has special education needs that a local CSI Christian day school cannot provide. If the position is part-time, this qualification will be a preference.
- Has a Master’s Degree in Administration.
- Have successful prior experience in administrative positions.
- Can communicate effectively in all circumstances.
- Agrees to adhere to the Marriage and Sexuality Position Statement.

- Administers the school's daily activities according to the Bylaws of DMCS and the laws of the State of Indiana.
- Manages other duties and assignments as determined by the Head of School and/or Board.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
 Administrative:
- Organizes the school instruction:
- Works with various committees and other leadership to hire and supervise staff members to carry out DeMotte Christian School's mission.
- Plans the use of the building and assigning staff to ensure the best use of resources in the instructional program. 
- Outlines methods and procedures to be followed in the daily operation of the school. 
- Creates schedules within the building.
- Supervises teachers:
- Conducts regular classroom visits and evaluations as outlined in Board policy.
- Hires approved substitute teachers as required.
- Holds regular staff meetings to discuss various ways to improve the school program, delegate specific tasks and responsibilities, and inform staff on matters of school policy.
- Enforces teacher accountability in staff meeting attendance, devotions, professional days, school hours, etc.
- Recommends to the Head of School, followed by the  Education Committee, the renewal of (and release from) contracts for educational staff positions.
- Participates in monthly Board and Education Committee meetings and attends other meetings as needed.
- Coordinates the selection of educational textbooks and supplies and authorizes appropriate related expenditures.
- Maintains and enforces discipline policies.
- Attends at least one conference annually and additional meetings and workshops in administration and professional development approved by the Board.
- Willingly receives input and concerns from parents and the constituency (children, parents, grandparents) and responds to them in the best interests of the school.
- Oversees all other school employees under their direct report to ensure they fulfill the responsibilities outlined in their job descriptions.
- Oversees all administrative functions relevant to the operation of the school.
- Ensure IEPs (Individual Education Program) and 504s are correctly used and implemented.
- Ensure appropriate use of Cooperative School Services (CSS) and testing.
- Work alongside the Athletic Director to create an effective sports program.
- Oversee Technology Staff, including supervising software installation and maintenance, assessing future needs in software and hardware, and acting as a resource to staff/instructors. 
Curricular:
- Develops and articulates a Christian educational vision for the school and teaching staff. Sets the general direction of perspective in the curriculum. Encourages teachers to develop distinctively Christian approaches to teaching in their subject areas.
- Ensures that the credit requirements of the State of Indiana are met.
- Advises the Board in educational matters, providing relevant data regarding educational challenges and procedures. 
- Coordinates curriculum development and encourages teachers to develop and write curricular units and maintain course outlines.
- Maintains awareness of new educational developments and keeps teachers informed. In response to such developments, plans are proposed to improve the school's total educational effort in course offerings and instructional methods.
- Supervises instruction so that teachers and students alike are encouraged and stimulated to standards of excellence.
- Ensures that co-curricular activities of the school directly support curricular and educational goals.
Public Relations:
- Actively develops and promotes a positive school image and atmosphere among staff, students, parents, and the immediate geographic community.
- Encourages teachers to be actively involved in the Christian community.
