Job Description
The Student Support Assistant is responsible for academically, socially and emotionally supporting students at Highland Christian. This position partners with classroom teachers, administration, parents, and a broader community of resources to support the needs of all students enrolled at Highland Christian. The Student Support Assistant takes direction from the Lead Administrator, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students and must act in accordance with the HCS Constitution and with the policies established by the Board.
Job Requirements
The Student Support Assistant will:
- Collaborate with Dean of Students, Counselor and Student Support Specialist to support student social-emotional growth and development
- Review records and assist with student attendance and tardies
- Observe and take notes about a student(s) in a whole classroom setting
- Collect and assist in taking data and maintaining records as directed by the Dean of Students, Counselor and Student Support Specialist
- Implement interventions to meet the needs of students
- Monitor recess times and when needed, attend classroom field trips, to proactively support students with social-emotional needs
- Prioritize safety in crisis situations
- Support individualized, small group or whole class sessions to prevent or respond to student social-emotional needs
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff and parents
Other Duties as Assigned
- It is recognized that changing facts and circumstances impacting the school may supersede any position description, regardless of how complete. As such, in the intervening time between updates to position descriptions and any accompanying performance plans, the Student Support Assistant shall perform all other duties as assigned by the Lead Administrator, Assistant Principal, and/or Dean of Students.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Student Support Assistant is directly responsible and accountable to the Dean of Students and shall be evaluated annually according to established criteria, including the imposition of annual performance goals and objectives that include reference to appropriate metrics and/or key performance indicators of success, as established in an annual performance plan.

Experience:
- Experience working with children
- Strong Interpersonal Skills
- Confidence in Addressing Students and Parents
- Ability to Maintain Confidentiality
- Excellent Communicator
Education: High School Diploma
Faith: A successful candidate must have and profess a personal and mature commitment to faith in Jesus Christ and affirm the school’s statement of faith/basis of instruction and mission statement. Membership, or a commitment to become a member, at a Bible-believing Protestant church is a requirement of the position.
