Job Description

The Covenant Day School Athletics Department is seeking a strength & conditioning coach to teach classes and serve all athletic teams who will also serve as a varsity football assistant coach during football season. The coach must be committed to serving in alignment with the School’s mission and vision at all times and must demonstrate strong leadership in athlete development, sportsmanship, integrity and Christian character development. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The coach must demonstrate an exceptional knowledge of the skills and strategies of athletic conditioning as well as of the sport of football.  Reporting to the Athletic Director, the position is full-time and salaried (non-exempt) and can start serving in our community as soon as reasonable for the current school year.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

 Strength & Conditioning Head Coach:

  • Build relationships with other coaches, athletic administrators, and faculty to assist with all concerns as they relate to the physical needs and overall development of the student-athletes at Covenant Day School.
  • Partner with coaches and administrators to provide support in the areas of strength and conditioning and weight room management
  • Teach up to 6 high school courses in strength, conditioning and fitness as directed by the High School principal
  • Be present and punctual for all workouts with student athletes
  • Provide athletes with guidance and proper training techniques for free weights and other strength training equipment
  • Provide expertise and consultation in the area of strength (weight) training and physical conditioning as requested by the head coaches in all sports
  • Maintain the Covenant Day fitness center/weight room and provide coverage at the direction of the athletic director
  • Maintain up-to-date records on the strength program of assigned teams and specific individual workouts of student athletes on the teams
  • Communicate promptly and with responsiveness to inquiries from head coaches, parents and administrative staff
  • Attend athletic/administrative meetings as needed at the direction of the athletic director or assistant athletic director
  • Partner with the Athletic Department to support Covenant Day athletic initiatives generally
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Other duties as assigned by the athletic director

Varsity Football Assistant Coach:

  • Must be well versed in all aspects of the game of football
  • Football playing experience in high school or above levels desired
  • Coaching experience strongly preferred along with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of coaching
  • Attend and support the head coach at all football games as scheduled by the athletic director
  • Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises
  • Assess athletes’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the athletic and/or assistant athletic director informed of the athletic performance of students
  • Follow established protocol in the event of an injury to an athlete
  • Perform administrative tasks of the position including distributing equipment, supplies and uniforms, maintaining eligibility forms and other records, and following Covenant Day School athletics policies and procedures
  • Serve as a leader in the football program, exhibiting Christian values to encourage good sportsmanship and camaraderie
  • Desire to work with and mentor middle and high school youth
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain through the school
  • Physical agility to lift at least 40 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  • Other duties as assigned by the head football coach

Qualifications

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life
  • Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.
  • Previous experience in coaching and strength training required. NCSA certification preferred
  • Commercial driving license (CDL) or willingness to obtain licensure for bus driving needs
  • Administrative and organizational skills appropriate for the role
  • Demonstrated dedication to providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various school constituents such as coaches, parents, students, other Faculty/Staff and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches
  • Ability to maintain the greatest degree of confidentiality and professionalism in support of the School and Athletics
  • Ability to work under pressure both independently and within a team-oriented environment
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree required in a related discipline such as exercise science, kinesiology, physical therapy, etc.; NSCA/NASM certification preferred or must have willingness to obtain.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position
