Job Description
The school social worker will provide strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school principals, and community-based resources, the school social worker implements strategies that promote students’ positive school adjustment.
Education Requirements
- Master of Social Work degree including a minimum of 500 clock hours of supervised social work practicum experience
- Valid Michigan Social Work License
- School Social Work Certification or graduate-level course(s) pertaining to school social work
- Candidates with a Counseling Degree and appropriate experience may be considered
- Demonstration of knowledge/competence in the following areas:
- Child psychopathology
- Diagnosis, assessment, and testing
- Educational disabilities and their impact on children and families
- Practice of social work in educational settings
