Job Description
The WCS School Nurse is a full-time position reporting to the Director of ESS
●The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the school health program for Whitinsville
Christian School. Responsibilities include program management, nursing services, collaboration, health education, and
communication with the school community.
●Establish and manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines and regulations
governing nursing and school health. Advise the Administrative Team, consult with the school physician, school staff, and
others to establish, review and revise policies, procedures, and specific programs for comprehensive school health education
and services. Ensure the orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of paraprofessionals and substitute nurses.
●Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff as needed. Maintain AEDs on campus.
●Conduct health screenings and assessments, including vision and hearing screenings, as needed.
●Administer medication and maintain accurate records of medications administered.
●Develop and implement individualized health plans for students with chronic health conditions.
●Monitor immunization compliance and maintain health records in accordance with state regulations.
●Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics and promote healthy lifestyle choices, including regular emergency
training for staff.
●Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students with health needs and create a safe and inclusive
school environment.
●Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care and support students’ health needs.
●Maintain a clean and organized health office and ensure that supplies and equipment are stocked and readily available.
●Stay informed about current health issues, trends, and best practices in school nursing.
Education Requirements
Qualifications
●A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts (M.G.L. c. 71, s.53)
●A bachelor's degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by the NLN
●Have a minimum of two years of supervised nursing experience; previous experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing
preferred.
●Maintain certification in CPR.
