REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Administrator, and Appropriate Department Chair
SUPERVISES: Students and Classroom Volunteers
MINISTRY PURPOSE: This position is designed to fulfill the faith-based mission, vision, and core values as defined in the GRCS Long Range Plan.
EVALUATION: Performance on the job will be evaluated by the Administrator or the in terms of this job description.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a caring, friendly, respectful, well-kept, well-managed, safe, structured, nurturing, and Christian learning atmosphere that is conducive to academic, faith, and Christian character growth for all students.
- Embrace all student strengths and weaknesses.
- Provide distinctively Christian instruction, curriculum, and assessment following principles in the Reformed faith and creeds, as outlined in the Teaching for Transformation framework, and school policies and procedures.
- Prepare daily lesson plans in alignment with subject area standards and benchmarks. Be accountable for teaching the approved curriculum. Accept and maintain responsibility for all student curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Use student data in order to effectively alter/adjust instruction, curricular tools, and assessment methods.
- Keep accurate and complete records for each student.
- Be responsible for classroom discipline and student management that aligns with the school behavior expectations.
- Advocate for students and keep a “students first” focus.
- Fulfill all policies, procedures, and professional obligations outlined in handbooks and in written and oral instructions from the principal or director of faculty development.
- Recognize all students, parents, and colleagues as image bearers of God and maintain an attitude of constructive cooperation, praying for and supporting all members of the school community through various means.
- Provide leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, administrators, colleagues, parents, and school supporters.
- Grow in professional knowledge of students, faith development, Christian education, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Partner with parents in the education of their covenant child. Communicate regularly related to student progress, concerns, joys, or other topics.
- Be a champion and advocate of the school and Christian education. Speak and act positively on behalf of the school and all school employees.
- Participate actively and positively in all faculty meetings, professional development, parent/teacher conferences, school events, workdays, data team meetings, team assignments, and other opportunities, as assigned by the principal or director of faculty development.
- Communicate regularly with school faculty, staff, and administrators, maintaining an effective educational team. Willingly partner with others in the education of students.
- Perform recess duty, lunchroom supervision, hallway supervision, and other duties regularly and consistently.
- Provide direction, support, and materials for paraprofessionals who assist in student learning, with the teacher remaining responsible and evaluating student progress during and following instruction.
- Contribute to the pursuit of school-wide goals.
- Manage all aspects of the classroom, including displays, materials, and cleanliness.
- Other duties as appropriate and assigned.
