Job Description
The Teacher Assistant supports the classroom teacher by providing instructional, physical, social/emotional and behavioral support to students. Teacher Assistant positions are evaluated each year and subject to change based on enrollment and classroom/student needs.
Job Requirements
- Above all else, support the work of the classroom teacher
- Carry out classroom procedures established by the teacher
- Provide limited direct instruction to students, as needed, and planned by teacher
- Perform limited screening and assessment as needed
- Assist the teacher with classroom management and support positive student behaviors
- Prepare materials for the teacher and students as directed by the teacher
- Monitor children with particular attention to those with special needs
- Provide support to students with health/personal care needs
- Prepare the classroom setting to promote a healthy learning environment, ensuring safety standards are met at all times
Education Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma (minimum) or bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Experience working in education or a child development setting is preferred
- Experience interacting with children of varied abilities
