Job Description
School Information: Western Michigan Christian Middle and High School is located in Norton Shores,
Michigan and serves 325 students in 7th through 12th grade. Our mission is to educate with excellence,
integrate faith with knowledge, and equip students to work and serve Christ in their communities. WMC strives
to integrate faith with knowledge by utilizing the Teaching for Transformation framework. WMC is in its 76th
year of providing high-quality Christian education along the lakeshore and is proud of the faithfulness of the
families we serve.
Hours: This is a contract position during the school year, which typically runs from the end of August through early
June. During the school year, the teacher should report to the building by 7:30 a.m. and should stay until 3:30 p.m.
There may be responsibilities (parent-teacher conferences, parent events, board events, etc.) that may require
attendance beyond the typical school day.
Compensation: As determined by experience; this is a full time position with benefits.
Position Overview: The Middle School Math teacher will be responsible for instructing 7th and 8th grade students
in the development and appreciation of theoretical and applied mathematical skills. Responsibilities include
developing interesting lesson plans and curricula, collaborating with other teachers, completing student
assessments and addressing any performance issues. The candidate should be able to teach students from a
varied cultural background. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to faith integration,
student engagement and academic excellence.
Job Requirements
Responsibilities include:
● Designing, developing and delivering quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to
national and school guidelines
● Integrating Biblical principles into classroom instruction and modeling Christian character.
● Drawing up suitable assessments and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents and
other teachers
● Establishing classroom rules and procedures, then ensuring that all students understand
what is expected of them
● Providing extra resources, support and interventions for students who are struggling
● Grading papers, updating records and handling various administrative tasks
● Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing
concerns
● Participate in faculty meetings, devotions, professional development and school events
● Regularly communicating with parents
Practical experience with MS Office, Google Classroom and other software
● Dedication, patience and the ability to remain calm in tense situations
● The ability to answer sensitive questions and create an environment where everyone’s
opinions are respected
● A passion for mathematics and a commitment for continuing education
● Strong communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
Education Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in education with a specialization in mathematics, or equivalent
- A relevant teaching certificate or license
- A completed apprenticeship or teaching experience
