Job Description
The Bradenton Christian School Middle School Counselor will faithfully support Bradenton Christian School’s mission statement to prepare the hearts and minds of God’s covenantal children in partnership with the home and church for service in God’s world. It is the Middle School Counselor’s responsibility to carry out the policies of the School Board as they relate to the function of the school and to their association with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
Summary
The Middle School Counselor at Bradenton Christian School has a dual reporting relationship with the Secondary School Principal and Secondary School Vice Principal, and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive counseling program that supports students’ academic, social-emotional and academic growth by providing individual and group counseling, addressing concerns related to transitions, peer relationships, self-esteem, and academic planning, while collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive learning environment for middle school students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Student Needs Assessment: Identifying student needs through data analysis, observations, and consultations with teachers and parents to tailor counseling interventions accordingly.
- Individual Counseling: Providing individual sessions to address personal challenges, academic concerns, social issues, and family dynamics.
- Group Counseling: Facilitating small group sessions focused on specific topics like bullying prevention, stress management, study skills, or social skills development.
- Academic Advising: Assisting students with course selection, academic goal setting, and navigating the transition to high school.
- Crisis Intervention: Responding to immediate crisis situations and providing support to students experiencing emotional distress.
- Parent Collaboration: Communicating with parents about student progress, concerns, and providing support to fulfill the mission of partnering with the family.
- Collaboration with School Staff: Working with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to coordinate student support and address concerns.
- Testing/Data Collection and Evaluation: Tracking student data to assess the effectiveness of counseling programs and make necessary adjustments. Help coordinate standardized testing for students and assist in interpreting scores of tests for students and parents.
- Student Scheduling: Responsible for creating an overall master schedule for middle school students and individualized student schedules for the academic school year.

Qualifications:
- A clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior with active participation and weekly worship in a local Christian church.
- Experience working with middle school students.
- Effective crisis intervention skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of data analysis and program evaluation methods.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift 15+ pounds at times.
Education Requirements
- Master’s Degree in school counseling or related field and valid certification.
