Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrate love for God:
- Express specific knowledge of the Bible and its application to subject area(s).
- Practice daily devotions of prayer, reading of God’s Word, and meditation in the classroom.
- Give Christian service to others both within and outside the school.
- Model an exemplary Christian walk in speech and acts.
- Submit to authority out of obedience to Christ.
- Demonstrate love for students:
- Treat each child as uniquely gifted by God for the purpose of serving others (1 Peter 4:10).
- Show through actions that each child is made to reflect God himself.
- Discipline students fairly and firmly out of love for them.
- Encourage students persistently (catch them “doing good”).
- Guide students in helping other students learn.
- Evaluate student’s progress in learning with announced criteria fairly applied.
- Demonstrate Christian professional competence and vision:
- Show strong knowledge of learning theory, curriculum design, and subject area(s).
- Construct and/or use courses, units, and lessons that integrate knowledge.
- Select materials and lesson designs that specifically carry out the goals derived from the school’s mission statement.
- Use evaluation instruments that match the school’s goals and specific objectives that allow each child to show what he/she has learned, and that help students meet high expectations for learning.
- Fit students with the “glasses of Scripture” for viewing all of life rightly.
- Assist students to understand and live in the knowledge that God is sovereign over every aspect of life.
- Pursue further learning of subject area(s) while seeking the best pedagogy for the school’s goals.
- Communicate effectively according to Biblical standards:
- Speak clearly, honestly, and with concern for the audience.
- Use fresh analogies to connect new concepts to students’ experience.
- Relate stories of God’s faithfulness, personal and communal, with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Vary the means (visual, audible, tactile) and language (abstract, concrete, metaphorical, etc.) depending on the subject and the needs of all children.
- Encourage each child’s expression and help students to adopt Biblical principles for making choices.
- Model awe for the destructive power of sin and God’s restoration of creation and human beings.

Qualifications:
- Job Specific Requirements:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current certification from a State (with a goal of being certified in the State of Indiana within 3 years of first employment) in the subject area or grade level for which the teacher is hired (exceptions may only be made by the LCS Board).
- All Lafayette Christian Staff Requirements:
- Has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior and demonstrates his or her love for God through daily devotions of prayer, reading of God’s Word, and meditation.
- Signed agreement with Article II of the Lafayette Christian School constitution which states: “The basis of the Society and of all instruction given in the school is the infallible Word of God as interpreted in the Reformed Confessional Standards. Based on these standards, we are committed to the following principles: that the education of children in school, as well as in the home, must be in accordance with the Word of God, therefore, it is a parental responsibility to provide Christian education institutions.”
- Active member of a church whose teaching agrees with the statement of beliefs of this school.
- Under normal circumstances, an intent to educate current and prospective children in his/her family in CSI Christian day schools.
- Understanding and acceptance of LCS Statement of Beliefs
