Job Description
Advance a vision for inclusive education.
- In collaboration with the Education Support Services team, provide hands-on academic support and intervention for students as needed.
- To come alongside the classroom teacher to support those students with needs which cannot be met through differentiation within the classroom. This may include but is not limited to the following:
- Collaborating with the classroom teacher to support the academic and social emotional needs of students
- Strategizing interventions based on student needs
- Pushing in for strategic instructional grouping
- Pulling out those students needing intervention
- Advising on accommodations and modifications for students as appropriate
- Collaborating with the classroom teacher to support the academic and social emotional needs of students
Student Support:

- Coordinate the intake process with Administration for incoming students with identified needs.
- Identify and provide support for students with learning and behavioral differences.
- Provide support and guidance for teachers working with those students.
- Write and develop Student Support Plans (SSP) for those students with identified needs and set student goals and consistently monitor progress.
- Lead the Student Support Team (SST) meetings, clearly communicating the goals and progress with teachers and parents.
- Create lessons that will help students make progress and meet their goals.
- Be familiar with and provide recommendations for various intervention and assessment tools that support and monitor student progress.
- Observe teaching staff to monitor effectiveness of accommodations and interventions.
- Evaluate regularly (at least each Trimester) meeting with the SST and families to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
- Advocate for students at BCS.
- Other Tasks:
- Advise the Administrator on staffing, future goals, and needs of the program.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the local public school district, outside consultants, and specialists.
- Maintain and update policy and procedures in the Student Support Services Handbook.
- Gather, review, and interpret student assessment data. Administer benchmark tests and interpret assessment data to determine student needs. Assist teachers in interpreting data.
Job Requirements
In instructional planning:
- Hold the school’s mission before you as the “big picture” of what you are attempting to accomplish.
- Translate the school’s student outcomes into specific objectives or essential questions for lessons suitable to the age level and development needs of your students.
- Select and use curricular materials that will help students achieve these outcomes.
- Collaborate with teachers to plan teaching-learning experiences that help each student achieve the stated objectives.
- Plan lessons that connect biblical principles to concepts about God’s world.
- Plan a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of the students.
- Select in advance the means of assessment to measure students’ learning for a lesson or unit.
In teaching:
- Use time well with activities that engage student’s attention and have a clear purpose.
- Give clear directions and well-organized examples and explanations.
- Articulate a biblical worldview that is woven into instruction.
- Listen carefully to students’ ideas and apply them to the lesson.
- Use questions and explanations that promote clear thinking and awe in students.
- Show interest and wonder in all learning through gestures, body movement, and voice inflection.
- Compose useful analogies to connect what students are learning to what they have already learned.
In relating with students:
- Establish a climate of love and care.
- Serve as a positive role model for students in school and in the broader community.
- Define responsible Christian behavior for students, including guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior in school.
- Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate guiding and correcting.
- Provide organized learning that helps students support and learn from each other.
In professional growth:
- Have a growth mindset and be a lifelong learner. Take responsibility for your own professional growth. by remaining current in scholarship on teaching, the purposes of Christian education, and your subject area (Learning Support Services)
- Demonstrate an ability and desire to collaborate with colleagues and administration by contributing ideas and listening to the ideas of others.
- Accept your share of responsibilities for the Christian education of the students and the operation of the school.
Education Requirements
- BA or MA (preferred) in the field of Special Education.
- Candidates with education training, certification, or experience in working with students with learning differences are preferred.
- Experience with various benchmarking, intervention/support, and curricular tools (i.e. AimsWeb, STAR, MAP, Orton Gillingham, Fountas and Pinnell, Visualization and Verbalization, Self-Regulated Strategy Development, Reading and Writing Units of Study, etc.) is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with and leading a team is desired.
- A valid teaching certificate is preferred but not required. If not in possession of a current teaching certificate, the teacher must be willing to work toward obtaining a valid WI teaching license.
