Summary Job Description

Covenant Day School seeks a part-time lower school Academic Resources Intervention Specialist who works on a team that provides services to students identified for specialized instructional needs in support of the school’s mission. The Intervention Specialist partners with lower school grade levels to serve identified students in the classroom with strategies for differentiated learning, small group instruction, etc.  Reporting to the lead Intervention Specialist under the direction of the Academic Resources Director, this role serves during the approximately ten-month academic school year that begins in August 2025.  The position is part time and salaried (exempt), with a schedule of 20 hours each week as five hours a day over four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday).

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with MTSS Coordinator to ensure effective implementation of MTSS strategies and practices to support student success; develop and implement individualized support plans to meet diverse student needs
  • Provide specialized training in reading, English, mathematics and writing; provide coaching and support to classroom teachers for differentiated teaching needs and interventions
  • Help teachers diagnose reading and mathematics strengths and weaknesses and match the skills with appropriate intervention techniques and materials
  • Use data, such as progress monitoring, classroom assessments and observations to monitor instruction and document student progress
  • Attend and participate in appropriate training, meetings and workshops
  • Work with teachers and the academic resources team to identify the best practices for individual students and groups of students
  • Communicate in understandable terms, individual student progress to teachers and parents 
  • Provide input regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention plans
  • Work with teachers on intervention tactics implemented in the classroom
  • Creates and provides educational materials and strategies for instruction
  • Have an attitude of Christian service and model Christian principles and behavior to students and colleagues
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Academic Resources Director.

 Qualifications 

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ, reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life
  • Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship
  • Bachelor’s degree in special education; experience in academic resources work preferred; teacher certification preferred
  • Proven experience working within the MTSS framework; specialized training such as LETRS, multi-sensory math, Orton-Gillingham, or Wilson Reading beneficial
  • Able to design and execute evidence-based intervention plans to support academic growth
  • Ability to be flexible according to the changing needs of students
  • Willingness to work with lower, middle, or high school students as needed
  • Positive attitude and a genuine love for and ability to connect with school youth
  • Passion for learning, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff
  • Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches; computer skills as applicable to effective teaching
  • Computer skills as applicable for effectively fulfilling the role
  • Ability to walk across campus and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
