High School Guidance Counselor
The High School Guidance Counselor is a member of the High School Faculty which reports to the Dean of Student Affairs. Responsibilities include the following:
- To promote the mission of WCS in all activities of the school. Specifically, to nurture the academic, spiritual, personal, social, creative and physical development of students, in cooperation with their parents, for Christ-like service in God’s World.
- To lead the scheduling team (Principal, Dean of Academic Support, High School Administrative Assistant, Guidance Counselors) and all scheduling related tasks in FACTS. (Bethany)
- To review and maintain student schedules, working directly with students, the Guidance Team, and in collaboration with the principal.
- To develop and implement the Guidance Advising Program for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This includes, but is not limited to, resume building, skills inventory, college planning and career planning.
- To work directly with rising seniors through the college and career process including but not limited to:
- Educating students and families on the postsecondary search process
- Working with students to create a college list by comparing and contrasting cost, size, demographics, majors, and campus environment of colleges
- Guiding students through the application process
- Proving families with resources for financial aid
- Academic advising
- Building relationships
- Mentoring
- Delivering documents to colleges
- Create and maintain high school Guidance communication, including parent emails, weekly announcements, Guidance Resource Slides.
- To manage the platform used for sending official student documents to colleges (currently SCOIR).
- Coordinate College Rep Visits during the school day.
- To manage all WCS and local scholarships, including updating criteria annually, announcing scholarship opportunities for students, coordinating applications, and working with the Business Office or other entities regarding the disbursement of scholarship funds.
- To manage the administration College Board exams and serve as Coordinator for the AP, PSAT, and SAT annual exams.
- Serve as VHS coordinator.
- To assist the event planning coordinator for all formal Guidance related events, in collaboration with other members of the Guidance Team, Director of the Arts, and Technology Department, including room reservations and set up, maintenance of invitation and guests lists, coordination of supplies, etc.
- To coordinate the campus-based components of the WCS International Program including working with incoming students through the interview and orientation process, providing ongoing academic and cultural support to current international students, and working with agents to approve host families.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of School.

Education Requirements
- Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred
- Previous experience as a high school guidance counselor preferred
- This position is full-time, with reduced hours in the summer.
