Job Description
Position Overview: Under the direction of the principal, the Dean of Students, is responsible for supporting the environment and culture in grades 6-12 and serves as a leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs, including student conduct, attendance, extracurricular activities, and emergency drills.
Qualifications:
- Is a Christian who:
- Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Is able to articulate a Christian statement of faith and purpose for Christian education.
- Subscribes to the purpose and principles listed in Section 2.01 of Article II and the educational philosophy contained in Section 3.01 of Article III of the Bylaws.
- Is an active communicant member in good standing of a church which subscribes to the historic Reformed confessions listed in Section 2.01 of Article II of the Bylaws. Such membership needs to be established within one year of employment start date.
- Is dedicated to a sound philosophy of Reformed Christian education.
- Agrees to educate his/her current and prospective children in CSI Christian day schools grade 1-12. This requirement may be waived if the child(ren) has special education needs that cannot be provided by a local CSI Christian day school. If the position is part-time, this qualification will be a preference.
- Holds or is working toward a Master’s Degree in Administration is preferred but not required.
- Is able to communicate effectively in all circumstances.
- Agrees to adhere to the Marriage and Sexuality Position Statement.

Job Requirements
Responsibilities:
Administrative - Partnering with Staff
- Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; assumes the duties of the Principal with the Head of School in the absence of the Principal. The Dean of Students serves on the administrative team.
- Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policies; receives behavior reports and works with students, parents, and teachers; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns regarding student behavior.
- Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of the student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks.
- Develops plans for emergency situations with other administrators, staff and public safety agencies; plans emergency drills; updates safety plans and maintains community partnerships.
- Provides direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and student programs and services; provides recommendations and suggestions for improving staff/student relationships.
- Serves as the point person for planning of band/choir concerts, plays, musicals, and other activities by working with directors, custodians, and the athletic director to ensure facilities are reserved.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Students and Parents
- Leads and develops a strong Christian climate through relationships, activities, and positive (yet direct) communication.
- Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities; instructs students in appropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance with established guidelines.
- Monitors attendance; prepares letters, calls parents, and attends meetings as needed regarding absent/tardy students; provides leadership for attendance improvement efforts.
- Performs eligibility checks for students in extracurricular activities, provides written updates to the Principal, Athletic Director, and Guidance Counselor, and communicates with students and parents.
- Oversees clubs and committees (intramurals, student council, chapel, yearbook, etc.) and off campus lunches (permission slips).
- Organizes, facilitates and leads middle school and freshmen orientations in conjunction with the principal and teachers.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students. Participates in IEP and 504 meetings, as needed.
- Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
- Oversee high school Works Based Learning initiatives for students in internships.
Board
- Participates in Education Committee and/or Board functions, as requested by the Head of School or Building Principal.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
5+ years of experience in education preferred
