Classification: Full-Time / 100% FTE
Reports to: Avail Academy President
Oversees: Business Office, Human Resources, Technology, & Facilities

PURPOSE

The Chief Operating Officer provides operational leadership for Avail Academy and is responsible for managing and directing the non-academic functions of the school, including budgeting and finance, facility management, staff onboarding, and campus technology. Additionally, this position will oversee all campus construction projects and serve on the Executive Team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Finance (40%)

  • Build, forecast, and manage annual operating budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Lead capital expenditure planning and execution, including long-term building and infrastructure investments.
  • Lead the annual auditing process.
  • Lead all financial aid processes, ensuring accessibility for families, regulatory compliance, and alignment with Avail’s enrollment strategy.
  • Facilitate financial projections and analyses for facility growth and program expansion.
  • Review and analyze Avail’s business operations to ensure cost efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversee risk management functions, including insurance and legal matters.

2. Facility Management & Transportation (20%)

  • Provide leadership and oversight of security processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead operational purchasing and procurement.
  • Oversee campus vendor relationships, warranty periods, and primary suppliers.
  • Manage all property and liability insurance coverages.
  • Oversee facility rental and usage, including contract negotiations and administration of tenant lease agreements.
  • Support transportation and busing needs.
  • Stay up to date on current trends and best practices in school safety.

3. Human Resources and Personnel Supervision (20%)

  • Supervise staff, including business office, technology, and custodial/maintenance teams.
  • Oversee Human Resources processes, including employment policies, payroll, and benefits administration.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant employment recordkeeping.
  • Stay current on tax regulations and employment law to ensure organizational compliance.

4. Information Technology Systems (10%)

  • Administer IT infrastructure and managed services (internal and outsourced), including hardware, software, and troubleshooting.
  • Forecast, budget for, and procure technology resources.
  • Oversee technology training for faculty and staff.

5. Additional Duties (10%)

  • Prepare and submit board reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

$100,000-$110,000 range. Actual salary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
Benefits include medical, dental, life, and AD&D insurance, plus an optional retirement plan.
