Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Specialist oversees and manages the accounting functions within CSI in conjunction with
the CPA. This specialist shall be proactive, a self-starter, and a problem-solver.

REPORTS TO: CEO

POSITION TYPE: 25–30 hours per week

DEPARTMENT: Accounting

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the full accounts receivable function: Set up new schools in the accounting
    system, make deposits, verify accuracy of deposits, process donation payments, communicate
    with appropriate team members when donations or payments are received
  • Bill out and organize receipt of annual membership dues
  • Obtain all invoices, prepare the invoices in the accounting system, ensure approval and payment
    processes are followed correctly
  • Handle the ACH payment processes
  • Responsible for the full function of Accounts Payable
  • Manage disbursements for the IRS’s 1099 purposes
  • Interact with vendors and the bank to make sure invoices are paid timely, recorded properly and
    that fraud is not occurring
  • Understand the general ledger: create new g/l accounts, reconcile accounts, apply transactions
    properly, analyze activity monthly and prepare reports as requested
  • Perform all accounting functions related to the e-commerce sales platform, review orders, provide
    customer service as needed and assist analyzing sales
  • Administer the processing center for credit card payments from the CSI payment page and E-commerce store
  • Track cash activities, reconcile cash account
  • Understand and maintain bank account setups including reviewing debit/credit, outstanding
    checks, international check and activities, access online accounts to review for fraud
  • Manage the corporate credit card
  • Assist with detail and review of the budget
  • Assist with audits as needed
  • Assist with employee payroll as needed
  • Reconcile inventory

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or another related field required
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience is preferred.

  • This role has strategic and decision-making responsibilities organization wide. This role does not
    supervise anyone.

 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong fundamental understanding of general accounting practices and financial management in
    a non-profit setting
  • GAAP Accounting Principals
  • Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and procedures used in accounting administration, and
    development of internal controls
  • Professional knowledge of the principles and techniques used in financial analysis, projections
    and research
  • In-depth knowledge of the accounting data entry and storage systems
  • In-depth knowledge of the external and internal audit processes
  • Knowledge of relevant software and applications
  • Ability to establish effective processes and protocols

  • Firm understanding of Microsoft Windows & Office 365, QuickBooks Online

    eCommerce System, Bank and Credit Card systems

  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize large bodies of information

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment for Christian Schools International reflects a flexible, hybrid work environment.
Employees work both remotely and in the office as needed. New employees are required to be in the
office a minimum of two days per week.
